What should I expect during my initial evaluation?
Evaluations take about an hour and are performed by a licensed speech-language pathologist. For our pediatric patients, a comprehensive speech and language evaluation is administered in order to gain insight into your child’s current abilities and needs. For our adult patients, the evaluation is based on your area of need, whether it be language, voice, cognition, or swallowing. Results are discussed immediately following the completion of the evaluation during the same appointment. Should therapy be recommended, we then develop a Plan of Care specifically for you/your child and schedule treatment. Our treatment sessions are typically once or twice per week for 30-minutes of individual therapy depending on the individual patient’s need.

What services do you offer for adults?
We evaluate and treat adults with speech, language, voice, cognitive-communication, and swallowing impairments due to stroke, head and neck cancer, and neurological disorders. All services are provided by an ASHA certified speech-language pathologist who will work closely with you and your family to develop and implement a Plan of Care to meet your individual needs.
What is required to begin treatment?
Due to insurance requirements, we require a signed physician order prior to your initial evaluation. There are also some specific requirements for different age groups:
For our pediatric patients (5-years and under):
A current hearing screening
For our school-aged patients:
A copy of the most current Individualized Education Plan (IEP) (if applicable)
If no IEP, a current hearing screening is required
For our adult swallowing patients:
A current Modified Barium Swallow Study (MBSS)
How long will I need to attend therapy?
Each individual’s needs are different. Per insurance regulations, we create a new Plan of Care every 6-months which requires a reevaluation in order to determine the need for ongoing treatment versus discontinuation of care. Most of our patients attend individual therapy sessions once or twice per week for 30-minute sessions although the length of time they attend therapy varies greatly. For some, it may mean only a few sessions for patient and family education, while for others it may mean ongoing therapy for years to address a more complex impairment.
